The objective of the programme is to enable the for artisans and weavers of various clusters both from handicrafts and handloom sectors of Gujarat to produce goods marketable in the national and international markets and to enhance the income generation of the weavers through the Co-operative Society’s. In this connection, Dr Darlie O Koshy, Executive Director NID, Dr Himadri Ghosh, Activity Chairperson, Integrated Design Services of NID, Mr Akhil Succena, Activity Chairperson, Outreach Programmes and Mr Praveen Nahar, Activity Vice Chairperson, Outreach Programmes had several meetings and discussions with Dr Amarjit Singh, Secretary, Industry and Mines, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. Based on the interactions with Dr Singh, NID( National Institute of Design ) agrees to undertake the craft development programme in the state with a view to obtaining a new marketable design in the selected crafts, introduction of improved and new tools and equipments for better finish and skill up-gradation of craftsmen working in the identified craft clusters. The objective of the programme is to enable the clusters to produce goods marketable in the national and international markets and to enhance the income generation of the craftspeople. NID agreed to undertake the following 4 clusters for Design Intervention for Skill Up gradation and Product Diversification:
