The village
Under this project 150 BPL beneficiaries are selected from Kajavas, Agia, Sabliya, Bhoramiya, Gadhada, Shamlaji, Kalol Naka villages of Sabarkantha district. This cluster is located at about 30 K.M. From Khedbrahma on Ambaji Highway. The BPL Beneficiaries are producing products like Torans, Wall Hangings, Idols of Ganeshji & Shri Krishna, Flowers, Flower pots, Lamp shades,Jhulas, Mandir from Coconut fiber. The craft is known as Handicraft (Coir work). Normally livelihood of these BPL Beneficiaries depends on this craft. Gujarat Rural Industries Marketing Corporation ltd – Gandhinagar, with the support of Ministry of Rural Development (Government of India) – New Delhi and Commissionerate of Rural Development – Gujarat State given training to workers at the cluster through National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) – Gandhinagar, a premier Design Institute of Asia. Thus basic changes are made in present traditional work of Coir work in order to suit market demand & to make it attractive to increase sales and to encourage handicraft workers.
