The village
Deodar of Banaskantha districts is situated at the distance of about 60 km. from Patan. More than 150 BPL beneficiaries of this village are doing hand embroidery work on clothes. The BPL beneficieries included under this cluster are making items useful to household like toran, embroidery woks on bed sheets, wall pieces and handworked items. Mainly they do embroidery work on toran and bed sheets on job work basis. Normally their livelihood depends on this craft. Gujarat Rural Industries Maketing Corporation Limited (GRIMCO) Gandhinagar with the support of Rural Development Minisrty, Govt. of India New Delhi and Commissioner, Rural Development Gujarat State gives training to the workers at the cluster place for design intercention and product development trough National Institute of Fashion Techonlogy, (NIFT) Gandhinagar. Thus basic changes are made in present traditional work (handicraft) in order to suit market demand and to make it attractive to increase sales and to encourage handicraft workers.
Special Project
Design Interventior for Skill Upgradation and Product Diversification Handicraft and Handloom Cluster Development in Gujarat.
Commissionerate Rural Development is working at state level to implement the prorammes of rural development of Gujarat Government and Govt. of India out of which two main programmes are being implimented in every district by Deistrict Rural Develpoment Agency.
Some of these programmes are as under :
1. Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojger Yojana (S.G.S.Y.)
2. Swara Gram Rojgar Yojana (S.G.R.Y.)
3. Indira Avas Housing Scheme forBPL families.
4. Gokul Gram Yojana (Basic aminities scheme for Village Deautification Scheme)
5. Sampurna Swachchata Abhiyan (T.S.C.) Total Sanitation Scheme.
6. Jal Sanchay Yojana (Water Conservation Scheme)
Regular programmes for proverty eleminations are implemented by DRDAs in all districts, special project are implimented by other Agencies also from which this S.G.S.Y. special project is implimented by Gujarat Rutal Industries Marketing Corporation Limited (GRIMCO)
Training by National Institute of Design (NIFT)
Under this project 25 BPL handicarft workers were given training in bhindi fibres aritcles cluster Humadpur. The village handicaft workers were given training of modern designing and during the training meal facility, travelling allowance, and stipend as partial wage were given to the trainees at the same place. Through these trained craft persons 125 BPL beneficiaries were given training uders the cluster in accordance to the norms of the scheme.
Providing productie tool kits
150 BPL beneficieries included in the cluster were provided with tool kits specially designed by NIFT assistance and to expediet their work.
To Provide Infrastructure
Under this project BPL beneficieries are to be given infratructure facility like common workshed in orderto rais BPL beneficieries above poverty line.
Marketing Support
In ofder to sell products prepared by cluster BPL handicrafts workers ‘Gram Hat’ Ahmedabad and Rural Development Ministry, Govt. of India are to organise Saras fairs indifferent states and National and International trade fairs. Moreover Special fairs during festival will be organised and Buyer Seller Meet will also be organised periodically for sale of products
